ABOUT THE COURSE
For whome:
4 modules of 10 lessons (Duration of lessons is 2 hours). Adults with any level of preparation. The course will be useful for both those entering educational institutions who want to expand their arsenal of artistic techniques and methods, and for beginning artists who dream of plunging into the world of painting, taming paints and learning to draw stunning landscapes, still lifes, botany and architecture.

On course:
  • You will get acquainted with the materials and techniques of painting;
  • Get the skill of chiaroscuro and color modeling of form;
  • Master work with gradient fill, grisaille, work on wet, impasto, accents and nuances in painting;
  • Learn techniques for working with various materials: watercolor, acrylic/tempera;
  • Get acquainted with aerial perspective, creating the illusion of volume and space;
  • Learn what a color wheel is and how to skillfully use it, what is the harmony of color relationships, color characteristics: color tone, lightness, color temperature, saturation;
  • Get acquainted with the laws of composition and master various composition techniques;
  • Learn to convey the materiality of objects, texture, shape, color and tone;
  • Learn to choose the optimal techniques and methods for each creative task and will clearly understand how work is created in any of the genres;
  • Get acquainted with the features of decorative painting. Learn to flatten space, color, stylization, deformation of objects, use of contrasting color. Learn logical compositional construction.
  • Get acquainted with several directions in painting.
COURSE PROGRAM


MODULE I Introduction to materials. Composition. Color science.

Lesson 1. Painting materials, auxiliary tools, tips on storing and caring for materials. An exercise to get to know watercolor, what are its properties, possibilities and limitations
Lesson 2. The concept of composition on a sheet, search, techniques. The concept of linear, angular and aerial perspective. Shadows, features of construction and image. Exercise on the analysis of the setting and preparatory drawing for painting
Lesson 3 - 4. Color science. Theory. Basic concepts and terms. Temperature and color saturation, types of color combinations. How to obtain the necessary shades, introduction to the concepts of "nuance", "contrast" and "tone". Color samples and palette. Grisaille
Lesson 5 - 6. Techniques and different approaches in watercolor. Stylization, filling technique, color stretching, gradient filling, wet-on-wet technique, masking fluid, graphic effects. Exercises on watercolor techniques
Lesson 7 - 8. Features of working with acrylic paints. Techniques and approach to work. Materials for work, tools, care for them. Brush or palette knife. Exercise to get acquainted with acrylic paints
Lesson 9 - 10. Fabric and folds in various painting techniques. The structure of folds. Transfer of materiality, type and character of folds. Exercise on depicting folds in different techniques

MODULE II Watercolor.

Lesson 1. Minimalism. Landscape.
Italian landscape. Large gradient fills. Smooth color stretches. Tonality and consistency in work
Lesson 2. Still life. Grisaille exercises and color solution. Work sequence. Analysis of tone, light and shadow, color
Lesson 3. Still life. The concept of picturesqueness. The ability to see shades of color. Analysis of color, tone of reflexes
Lesson 4. Watercolor on wet. Eastern still life. Study. Practicing tonal vision and the ability to take color exactly by tone. Techniques and effects in work
Lesson 5. Rendering Texture and Material. Still Life with Glass. Caustic
Lesson 6. Rendering texture and material. Still life of metal objects. Reflections
Lesson 7. Watercolor landscape on wet. Landscape of a sunlit park. Sky with clouds. Trees and falling shadows. Stages of work, techniques and color palette
Lesson 8. Watercolor landscape on wet. Seascape with boats and reflection. Aerial perspective. Caustics of water. Techniques and materials

Lesson 4. Rendering texture and material. Still life with glass. Caustics of glass objects
Lesson 5. Rendering texture and material. Still life of metal objects. Reflections
Lesson 6. Conveying the state of nature. Sunlit landscape. Creating a harmonious color palette. Conveying shadows. How to paint trees, tree crowns and tree shadows
Lesson 7. Still life illuminated by the sun. Techniques and materials. Working with a palette knife
Lesson 8. Landscape with sea and mountains. Techniques and effects. Reflections on water. Aerial perspective
