ABOUT THE COURSE
For representatives of all professions related to artistic creativity: artists, architects, designers, etc., drawing is the basis of creative language and a means of accurately expressing their thoughts. The creation of an architectural image begins with drawing, and only then do drawings and models appear. No bright colors in painting will correct the incorrect construction of figures! Who said that you have to work with a simple pencil? Take soft materials: charcoal, sepia, sanguine! Academic drawing is the basis of painting and graphics, just as letters and signs are the basis of any written language. If you do not know the letters, then it is impossible to compose them into words and write them so that they can be read.

COURSE PROGRAM

The program of the course "Academic Drawing" consists of 4 modules of 10 practical lessons + the module "Plein Air Practice". The course will be useful both for those entering educational institutions who want to refresh their artistic literacy base and fill in the gaps in practice, and for novice artists who have persistence and desire and want to master the classical, clearly structured system of a sequence of exercises and tasks that will help to study fine art most productively.

On the course:
Get acquainted with the materials and techniques of drawing;
Position your hand and learn how to hold a pencil correctly and apply lines and hatching.
Get the skill of linear-constructive construction of objects against the light;
Get the skill of compositional solution of staging on a sheet;
Get the skill of light and shadow modeling of form;
Learn the techniques of working with various materials: graphite pencil, charcoal, sanguine, sepia;
Get acquainted with aerial perspective, creating the illusion of volume and space;
You will learn the laws of composition and master various composition techniques;
Learn to convey the materiality of objects, texture, shape, color and tone;
Learn to choose the best techniques and methods for each creative task;

MODULE I Introduction to materials. Composition. Linear-constructive construction.

Lesson 1. Introduction to materials. Basic exercises for hand positioning. Linear-constructive drawing of a primitive on a plane from different angles. Composition on a sheet.

Lessons 2-3. Geometric object with straight edges (Cube). Composition on a sheet. Falling and proper shadow. Hatching techniques. Tonal solution. Aerial perspective

Lessons 4-5. Rotating geometric body (Sphere). Hatching techniques. Tonal solution. Aerial perspective.
Lessons 6-7. Geometric solid rotation (Cylinder/Cone). Composition on a sheet. Falling and proper shadow. Hatching techniques. Tonal solution. Aerial perspective.
Lessons 8-9. Still life of geometric figures. Linear-constructive drawing. Composition on a sheet. Falling and proper shadow. Tonal relationships. Hatching to reveal the constructive features of forms.
Lesson 10. Sketches of a human figure from life. Charcoal/sanguine/sepia. Composition, structure and proportions. Line and spot as means of expression.

MODULE II Drawing of drapery and still life from household items.

Lessons 11-12. Drawing of drapery. Conveying the materiality and character of folds. Creating a reflex by silhouette. Soft materials.
Lessons 13-15. Still life of 2 items with drapery (a household item and a plaster primitive against a simple drapery background). Composition on a sheet with a falling shadow. Construction and rendering of proportions. Analysis of tonal relationships. Hatching and rendering of materiality.
Lessons 16-18. Still life of 3 items and drapery. Detailed elaboration of form with hatching. Composition on a sheet with a falling shadow. Construction and rendering of proportions. Analysis of tonal relationships. Rendering of the materiality of the setting.
Lessons 19-20. Still life with plaster ornament and drapery. Tinted paper. Charcoal/sepia/sanguine/white charcoal

MODULE III Architectural detail and plaster details of the face

Lessons 1-3. Drawing of a plaster detail of the face (Lips). Composition on a sheet. Construction and rendering of proportions. Tonal solution. Rendering of materiality.
Lessons 4-7. Ionic capital. Composition on a sheet. Construction methods. Linear-constructive construction. Tonal solution. Hatching and materiality.
Lessons 8-10. Drawing of a plaster detail. Composition on a sheet. Construction methods. Linear-constructive construction. Tonal solution. Hatching and materiality

MODULE IV Plaster edging and antique head

Lessons 1-5. Plaster edging of a head. Study of construction and arrangement methods on a sheet of complex-shaped objects taking into account spatial perspective; development of shading and volume rendering skills
Lessons 6-10. Plaster head. Study of construction and arrangement methods on a sheet of complex-shaped objects taking into account spatial perspective; mastering the accuracy of construction and transmission with the help of hatching of light and shadow relations and volume of form;

MODULE V Plein Air

Objectives of the training module:
Acquisition of knowledge about the features of plein air lighting; development of skills in constructing linear and aerial perspective in a landscape from life; acquisition of skills in working on a sketch (from life of plant and architectural motifs), a human figure in the open air; development of skills in finding the necessary expressive method (graphic or pictorial approach in drawings) in the transmission of nature
